The ideal is eating raw whole plant foods. Some cooked plant food is ok... sometimes!... A whole food being defined as an edible item that when planted in the ground will take root and grow. This could be a seed, a fruit, a vegetable, a root or tuber... so come walk with me and enjoy a healthy, vibrant life... remove the causes, relieve the symptoms, restore health...Graeme Wardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00133175238737284989noreply@blogger.comBlogger19125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2250820976379891286.post-40200968867778739472023-12-17T21:40:00.000+11:002023-12-17T21:40:45.700+11:00
This is a piece I wrote in 2014 in response to an aquaintance asking what I would do if confronted with brain tumours and a tumour on the bladder.

This is my response.

"If it were me faced with this health challenge of a tumour on the bladder that has metastasised to the brain, I would do the following.

To begin with, keeping in mind that the body has been overwhelmed by toxicity and acidity and has tried to contain this by making tumours as a storage for the excess.
<p class="p1" style="font-feature-settings: normal;
WHY I WROTE THIS BOOKLET

Section 1:

I am often asked if there is a small booklet, which can be given to a
friend who is looking for information on Natural Health.

There are several books available but they are mostly written for
those who already know something about Natural Health and who
understand the meaning of the words used.

I have been told that many of these books are not easy for the
newcomer to understand.

So, I thought it might be useful to write something, which even a
child could understand clearly.

In this booklet I will try to tell my readers as simply as possible
what Natural Health is, and why it is worth learning about.

I will try not to use any long or difficult words but I hope that the
meaning of Natural Health will be made clear just the same.

Section 2:

This section deals simply with the naturopathic refutation of the
germ theory.

TELL ME SIMPLY

Some writers on Natural Health may not have made their message
clear enough.

They sometimes use long technical words, which few people
normally use.

The result is that the meaning of Natural Health is often hard to
understand.

People become confused and feel that Natural Health is too
complicated and hard for them to follow.

If this is so, then it is a great pity because Natural Health is really
very easy to understand, and it is not too hard to follow.

First, I must tell you what the words Natural Health mean to me.
The term Natural Health is what is called a “blanket” term.
It covers several things.
The two things we are interested in at present are:

1. Natural Living and

2. Natural Healing.
Natural Health means two things:

1. The way to keep healthy and...

2. The way to get your health back when you are sick.

So Natural Health covers the means by which we can keep healthy
and the means by which sick people can be got well again.

Having said that, I must explain why we are suggesting that people
should adopt the Natural way to health instead of using the
medical way, which is so well known.

There are two systems of health.

One is called the medical system and

The other is called the natural system.

Medical System

• In the medical system all kinds of substances and treatments
are used with the idea of getting health and keeping it.

3

In the medical system the custom is to take medicines or to
do things that are designed to stop us from becoming sick.

If we are already sick, there are substances called medicines
that we are advised to use to make us well again.

Injections are used extensively with the aim of immunising us
so we will not become sick.

Natural System

In the system called Natural Health, medicines are not used.

We say that the human body is meant to be healthy.

It is natural for us to be healthy.

If we are sick, we must have done something that has
created the sickness.

We say that it will also keep healthy if we care for it properly.

We say that it will also heal itself (if it becomes sick) if we

look after it properly.

If we look after our bodies correctly and keep ourselves
healthy, we call this Natural Living.

If we care for the body correctly when it is sick, we call this
Natural Healing.

There are several names given to Natural Healing such as:

Nature Cure,

Natural Hygiene

But they all mean the same thing - It is simply healing without
medicines.

What do we do?

How does the human body normally keep itself healthy?

Is there anything special that we have to do so we will not
become ill?

We need to keep the body clean.

We need restful sleep.

We need suitable surroundings and a happy disposition.

Of course, we also need suitable work, recreation, sports
and amusements to make life fully enjoyable.

Life Style

All of these things, when combined make up what we call our life
style.

Life-style is very important because we claim that the kind of life
we have has a great deal to do with the kind of health we have.

We say that many millions of people have a poor standard of
health, and suffer from many diseases because their life-
style is wrong.

We say that by changing the life-style, it is possible to enjoy
better health.

We also say that it is often possible for sick people to recover
their lost health in this way.

If this is true, the life-style we have is very important.

quite wrong.

These are just a few things, which make for a bad life-style.

A good life-style is one in which we:

Eat mainly suitable foods.

We get enough restful sleep to enable us to recover fully
from the work of the previous day.

Our work is suitable to our individual tastes and the
surroundings are pleasant.

These are some of the most important things in a good life-style.

We say that a bad life-style will tend to produce ill health - while a
good life-style will tend to produce good health.

Health and Healing

Now, what should we do if we are already sick?
Can Natural healing help us to get our health back?

We say that it can and that is why many people who have tried
everything else are now turning to Natural Healing.

Those people who have tried everything else offered by the
medical system realise that they have nothing to lose by trying the
natural way to health.

The natural way of life is the one that every animal lives in its
natural state.

Animals obey natural law.

Man has also a natural way of life but it is unfortunately true that he
has largely chosen to depart from that way of life, and is now living
in a life-style that is not in his best interests.

Man is slowly ruining his health, building disease and shortening
his life by his unnatural way of life.

We say that by adopting a more natural way of life, man would
become healthier and, barring accidents would stay healthy to a
good old age.

In health, the body has certain needs - which we have already
discussed. In sickness, the body needs these same things. What is
good for a healthy body is also good for a sick body. But, that is
not quite enough. The sick body needs more than this.

In Natural Healing there are certain rules to be followed.

We say that there is a cause for every illness.

We say that the cause must first be removed before we can start to
get well.

No matter what the cause is, it should be removed.

If we are doing something wrong we must stop doing the wrong
thing.

We cannot get well while we are doing the things which caused our
sickness.

Although this sounds so sensible, many people seem to disregard
these simple facts.

A sick person CANNOT GET WELL AGAIN while he continues to
do the things, which caused him to become sick.

So, the first rule to learn in Natural Healing is to remove the
cause of our illness.

The second rule in Natural Healing is to provide the body
with everything it needs, like shelter, warmth, comfort and all
of the other things in a natural life-style.

3. The third rule in Natural Healing is to provide the sick body
with rest. There are three kinds of rest, which when
combined we call Fasting. We need:

- Physical rest - We secure physical rest by lying on a
comfortable bed, and not using the muscles more than
necessary.

- Mental rest - Mental rest is rest of the mind. We should keep
our mind free of worry, fear and tension.

- And another kind called physiological rest. - We simply take
no food except water, sunlight and air. All solid food is
avoided during a Fast. When we go without food the body is
able to rest its digestive organs, and these usually hard-
working organs get a much-needed rest.

These are the three simple rules, which every animal on earth
obeys when it is ill.

This applies only to animals living in their natural state.

Domesticated animals are often forced to accept medical
treatments against their will.

These three simple rules form the foundation of Natural Healing.

There are no remedies or medicines in Natural Healing.

Nature has not provided any remedies for animals, birds or
fish, and nature has also not provided any remedies for
human beings.

The natural way to restore lost health is what all animals use. This
method is sufficient for animals and it is sufficient for man as well.

In fact, it has often been found that the natural method of healing
will enable a seriously ill person to get well again, even when
medical methods have been tried unsuccessfully.

The tragedy is that often, natural methods are tried only as a
last resort, when much valuable time has been lost, and the
disease has progressed too far.

The Natural Health Movement

I have now briefly explained what Natural Health is.

You know roughly what Natural Living means, and you know what
Natural Healing means.

It may interest readers to learn something about the more
important things in a natural life-style.

If my reader believes that it is natural to be healthy and that there
must be a natural way of life for human beings, just as there is for
animals, then the next step is to learn what we should do to
change a wrong life-style into a correct and natural life-style.

Most people get their first introduction to the natural way of life
through taking an interest in the food they eat.

During the past 50 years there has been a great upsurge of
interest in food.

People are becoming more and more aware of the
importance of good food.

They are becoming diet conscious.
It is becoming apparent that there are certain foods, which are not

only unsuitable - but also positively harmful.

The natural health movement has led the campaign to educate
people about their food needs.

The fact is that many of the foods man is trying to live on are
really not foods at all. Their food content is very low. These
foods are eaten for their taste alone, without any regard for
their harmful nature. These foods should properly be called
non-foods. Anyone who values their health should not eat
them at all.

Then, there are foods, which were quite wholesome in their
original state, but which have been changed into something
unwholesome by cooking, freezing and irradiating them.
These foods have been preserved, coloured, flavoured and
adulterated by the use of chemicals or harmful processes.
These foods also should not be eaten by anyone who wishes
to have good health.

• Lastly, there are the foods, which are not the proper food of
man at all. Man has eaten the carcases of animals, birds and
fish that are properly the natural food of other animals. They
are not his natural food. They are substitutes for his natural
food, and man would be much healthier if he did not eat
them.

Non-Foods

Let us think about some of the non-foods - the things that have
absolutely no food value at all.

Man eats such chemical concoctions as tea, coffee, cocoa,
alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, salt, pepper, vinegar, sauces, curry,
and mustard.

We would be much better off if we discarded these non-foods
entirely. They have no food value and are potentially harmful.

There are also many foods, which have been so highly refined that
anything of value, which may have originally been in them, has
been taken out.

The grains like wheat, corn and rice have been particularly affected
by excessive refinement.

When in their natural state these foods are quite good – but when
refined - become when refined they become not only poor foods -
but also harmful ones.

Sugar is another food, which, in its natural state, is a reasonably
good food. When refined into white sugar it becomes one of the
most harmful commodities eaten by man. It is not only bad for
general health, but is also particularly harmful for the teeth. It is a
main cause of tooth decay.

Anyone who has any regard for their health should never eat
refined (white) flour or refined (white) sugar.

Now, let us think about the foods, which should be good foods, but
have often been ruined by processing.

Fruits and vegetables are the very highest class of food for man.
Those who wish to have radiant health should make raw fruit and
raw vegetables a large percentage of their daily intake of food.

Eaten raw, these foods are quite wholesome but when frozen,
cooked and irradiated they become second-rate foods. It is not

10

generally known that many good foods like fruit and vegetables are
destroyed during processing. Manufacturers often subject these
foods to very high or very low temperatures. All of these practices
reduce the food value of what were once wholesome foods. The
fruit and vegetables, which were good foods in their fresh raw
state, have been reduced to lifeless foods unfit for human
consumption.

The diet of the average person consists of lifeless products in
bottles, cans and packets. Is it any wonder that the standard of
health fitness is falling rapidly?

Perhaps the first and most important step the reader can take
towards the adoption of a more natural way of life is to discard all
harmful foods and to replace them with a living diet of foods in a
state as near natural as possible. This means a largely raw diet.
Do you realise that man is the only animal on earth who cooks his
food?

The beginner should try to eat as much raw fruit and vegetables as
possible. Cooked food should be reduced to the absolute
minimum.

In a booklet this size and scope it would not be possible to cover
the whole field of natural foods. Fortunately, there are books
available and you are urged to make enquiries where you bought
this booklet. You will be shown books, which fully cover this
important subject.

Let us now give some thought to some of the other factors in our
life style which make for good health. Correct food is very
important because we are made of the food we eat, but there are
other factors, which merit your attention too.

EXERCISE

Exercise is an important ingredient in a natural life-style. Exercise
has been sadly neglected due to the growth in popularity of the
motor car. What was once a blessing has now become a curse.
Many people imagine that they are getting enough when they are
not. The sum total of their exercise is to reach across the dinner
table for the sauce-bottle or to switch on the television set. Others
do get more exercise. They even walk to the garage to get into
their car to drive to work! While man worships motor cars there is
not much hope for a higher level of fitness.

REST

Rest is another important factor in a natural life-style. Late nights
and lack of rest must take their toll eventually. Restful sleep is a
prime need for good health.

Noise and vibration are slowly but surely on the increase. Music
has largely been replaced by the tremendous thunder of
loudspeakers pumping out what can only be called noise. As the
nervous systems of listeners slowly deteriorate, amplifiers are
turned up even higher to satisfy those people who are gradually
becoming more and more deaf and whose nervous systems are
being destroyed by the substitute for music, which is so common
today.

MENTAL POISE

One factor in a good life-style is Mental Poise. In order to be able
to enjoy, and take advantage of the benefits of healthy living, one
should be mentally poised. What is mental poise? It is a condition
of balance, stability and self-control. I promised not to use any long
words in this booklet but here is one word that I can't resist using in
a case like this. It is Equanimity. It is a beautiful word that fully
expresses the condition of steadiness, composure and calmness
under the most trying circumstances. That is equanimity. That is
mental poise! Mental poise may be cultivated by adopting a
positive, optimistic and constructive attitude of mind in our daily
life. Negative thoughts, those based on pessimism, despair, fear
and destructiveness cause nervous tension. Positive thoughts
based on optimism, courage and constructiveness promote
relaxation. Tension causes poor circulation of blood and nerve
force. Relaxation favours good circulation.

Now looking back over what I have said, it becomes clear that
there are two distinctly different life-styles open to us. There is the
orthodox lifestyle based on the principle that you can do almost
what you like as long as you take certain medical precautions. In
the orthodox life-style the motto is “A little of what you fancy will do
you good.” "Tobacco smoking won’t hurt you unless you smoke too
much.” “Alcohol is a socially-acceptable habit which won’t hurt you
unless you drink to excess.” Those who advocate this life-style say
that we should have immunising injections and vaccinations
against Polio, Diphtheria, German measles, Smallpox, Cholera,
Yellow Fever and Influenza. If you show any signs of illness you
should consult a medical doctor who will prescribe the appropriate
remedy. If an organ is unhealthy a surgeon should remove it. This

is the orthodox approach to health. We say that this approach to
health is wrong.

The natural way of life embraces a life-style almost exactly the
opposite to the orthodox life-style. We say those harmful habits
such as tobacco smoking, alcohol drinking and drug taking should
be abolished entirely. They are unnecessary and hazardous. We
say that man should eat those foods and drinks which are best
suited to him. We say that those who also get ample sunshine,
fresh air, vigorous exercise and regular rest and who maintain an
optimistic, positive and constructive attitude of mind will be
providing the normal natural requirements of a human being.

If man can do these things he can enjoy the highest level of health
of which he is capable and barring accidents should attain a
healthy happy old age free from sickness and worry.

INTELLIGENCE.WILLPOWER.DISCIPLINE

But, even with all of these things we need something else. There is
a need for Intelligence and Willpower.

Intelligence is needed to see through to the truth of our claim that
health is attainable and that it is natural for human beings to be
healthy and that it is possible to restore lost health (if taken in time)
if the causes of ill-health are removed and if rational nursing
methods are used.

Willpower is necessary to enable us to put into practice the truths
which our intelligence has discovered.

Self-discipline is necessary to enable us to apply the strength of
will needed to reject the habits of centuries and to replace them
with the health promoting habits and lifestyle that we have been
discussing.

There IS a life-style, which promises nothing but the maintenance
of the present state of sub-standard health, high incidence of
disease and premature death. This life-style can only bring in its
wake ill-health and misery.

There IS ALSO another life-style based on the undeniable truths of
nature. It is a natural way of life which although it demands
Intelligence and Willpower also promises a higher standard of
health, longer life free from worry of disease and a greater
measure of happiness.

ALTERNATIVE HEALTH

Now let me impress a few facts on your mind. There are some very
wide misconceptions abroad today about Natural Health. It looks
like quackery to some people. One would think, to read some
newspaper articles, that almost anything and everything, which is
not currently accepted by the medical profession, is “natural.” This
is not so.

It should be clearly understood that the quackery that is
masquerading as Natural Health is nothing of the kind.

There is nothing natural about Acupuncture. Pushing needles into
the skin of a sick person will do nothing to correct a faulty life-style.

Taking herbal remedies is another form of superstition which is
masquerading as a “natural” form of treatment. It is nothing of the
kind. Herbalism has nothing in common with Natural Healing. It is
simply a “wolf in sheep's clothing.” It is simply medicine under
another name.

All the mineral and vitamin supplements so popular today are
simply pathetic efforts to offset the wrong living habits, which the
pill-takers are too weak to give up. To take pills under the guise of
a natural treatment is simply to admit that the taker is too weak to
do what he knows to be right to remove the cause of his sickness.

The various occult treatments such as Radionics, Pyramids and
Orgone accumulators are simply toys which appeal to those who
are too weak to face up to the hard fact of life that “Health cannot
be bought, it must be BUILT.”

I am telling you these things to warn you that the exploiters of the
Natural Health movement are ready to pounce upon the unwary
and unless warning is given in time, much hard-earned money can
be wasted on treatments which are nothing more than expensive
and useless entertainments.

TOXAEMIA

Now, if you will pardon me, I will become just a little more
technical. What actually CAUSES ill health? Do germs or viruses
play an important part in ill health? Or, does bad luck play a part?
Do diseases just come without warning, with no apparent reason?

Let me say briefly that these theories are quite wrong. Disease,
which is not caused by an accident, or obvious poisoning, is
caused by TOXAEMIA. There, I've done it again and I promised
that I would not use words like that. Now that I have used the word,

I must explain it. Really it is not as fearsome as it looks. Toxaemia
simply means poisoned blood. If your blood contains materials
which it should not contain, it is poisoned - You have Toxaemia.
Now, how does the blood become poisoned? - Through a faulty
life-style (barring accidents, of course).

When we eat the wrong foods, when we overeat, when we eat too
many meals, when we take poisons like tobacco smoke, alcohol or
drugs into our stomach, there is a residue of harmful or poisonous
material. This material enters the bloodstream and causes the
blood to become polluted. This polluted condition, called
Toxaemia, is the real cause of disease.

ENERVATION

Wrong living habits contribute to this state also by slowing up or
even by completely blocking the regular elimination of wastes from
the body. Wrong living habits do this by causing enervation. There,
I have done it again! Enervation is simply a lowering of the amount
of nerve force. When nerve force is lower than normal, the body is
unable to properly use the food we eat, and it is unable to properly
remove the waste products, which are produced everyday in the
human body. Now you know what actually causes disease. It is a
lowering of the composition of the blood.

I hope that by now my readers will have a fairly clear idea of what
causes disease. It is simply that man is trying to live under a
perverted lifestyle, which is not conducive to health.

What are the actual means used to restore health under the
system called Natural Healing? The practice of Natural Healing is
called Naturopathy. Those who practice the art of Nature Healing
are called Naturopaths.

The methods used are simple, direct and effective. Here briefly are
some of the more important methods:

Fasting, or the withholding of food is one of the most important
methods.

Dietetics is the provision of the daily intake of correct food.
When water is employed scientifically it is called Hydrotherapy.
When sunlight is used in measured doses it is called Heliotherapy.

Exercise is used extensively and special exercises have been
devised to get the best results with the least effort.

Manipulation (such as Osteopathy and Chiropractic) is used when
necessary to help in the normalisation of the bony structure of the
body.

When these essential methods are used together in a scientific
way the resultant treatment is called Naturopathy. Whatever is
done by the naturopath, whether it is by way of advice or
treatment, must be directed, first, last and always towards the
normalisation of the body. The naturopath believes that when
conditions in the human body are normal, healing takes place
automatically.

We have now come to the end of this little chat on Natural Health.
It is simply an introduction to this whole new and natural way of
life. There is so much to learn and I have just lifted the curtain to
give you a little peek inside. The rules are few and simple. If you
would like to know more about Natural Health you might like to
attend a meeting of a Natural Health Society. They are spread over
most of Australia. If it is not possible to listen to speakers at a
Natural Health Society, you might like to buy a book or a
magazine. A list of recommended books will be given below. You
can further your knowledge of Natural Health by reading any of
those recommended. They are all worthy of your attention.

The Germ Theory - A Fallacy

Introduction

It appears that there is a pressing need for a small booklet setting
out the reasons why we in the Natural Health movement reject the
theory that germs and viruses are the primary cause of disease. In
the past, several books and many small pamphlets have been
published but they now seem to be largely unprocurable.

To those in the know it is simply accepted that the germ theory is a
fallacy and no real effort has been made to publicise the many
reasons for rejecting this fallacy.

There have been a few exceptions. In recent years Doctor Glen
Dettman of Melbourne has written an excellent monograph entitled
MICROZYMAS PLEASE NOT BACTERIA, exposing the fallacy of
the germ theory. Perhaps the most important book on this subject

many years ago by the C. W. Daniel Co. of London. In her
admirable book M/s Hume goes into great detail and traces the
history of the development of the germ theory as promoted by the
well-known Louis Pasteur and compares it with the Microzyma
theory as taught by the lesser known Professor Antoine Bechamp.
Pasteur was a plagiarist and showman who published some of the
work of Bechamp as his own in an inaccurate, distorted and
truncated form to give the scientific world an incorrect impression
of Bechamp's discoveries

The Microzyma theory is a scientific, logical and believable
extension and development of the incomplete germ theory.

On his deathbed Louis Pasteur recanted and admitted that he had
been wrong all along. He admitted that the determining factor in
disease causation was not the bacteria present but the soil in
which it was found. Pasteur said, "Bernard was right: the microbe
is nothing, the terrain is everything"

A word of explanation is necessary to clarify the statement of
Pasteur, which might otherwise be unintelligible. The "Bernard"
referred to was Claude Bernard, the eminent physiologist who
claimed, in opposition to Pasteur, that the microbe or germ was not
the prime factor in the cause of disease, but that the "terrain” was
all-important. By "terrain" was meant the environment or soil or
scene of activity in which the germ found itself. So, on his
deathbed Louis Pasteur admitted that all along he had been
mistaken. The germ, which was present at the site of most
diseases, did not cause the disease. He admitted belatedly that
the soil in which the germ was enabled to survive and flourish was
the all-important factor.

Unfortunately, this recantation was too late and was given no
publicity, and it remains unknown to the average person. The germ
theory, which Louis Pasteur had propagated so assiduously, had
become an integral part of the theory and practice of medicine.
And, that is the position today.

It is necessary for those who know better to periodically bring
under the notice of interested parties the truth about the germ
theory. This little booklet is an attempt to set out clearly in non-
technical language the reasons why intelligent people should reject
outright the monstrous fallacy called the germ theory.

Two Theories

The Naturopathic profession has adopted as its cornerstone the
philosophy of Toxaemia as the prime cause of disease. Toxaemia,
as has been explained in many books, is the presence of
unwanted, harmful or foreign material in the bloodstream and
tissues of the body. The word Toxaemia literally means, "Poisoned
blood".

The medical profession, on the other hand, is wedded to the germ
theory. It holds to the belief that the presence of germs, bacteria,
microbes or viruses, which tend to invade the body, is the direct
cause of most diseases. When germs invade the body this is
called an "infection". So, logically, medical treatment is largely
devoted to the administration of drugs, which are designed to kill
the tiny offending organisms. The drugs are poisonous chemicals
called Antibiotics, which have the ability to destroy living organisms
like germs, microbes, bacteria and viruses.

The organisms we are discussing are incredibly small and these
infinitesimal beings are credited with the almost miraculous power
of being able to invade the human body, to live there, to multiply
and eventually, to kill a human being which is a million times larger
than the invader - Altogether a frightening prospect if true.
Fortunately for us this claim is NOT true.

Those practitioners, (such as Naturopaths) who practice Natural
Healing, make no effort to kill these organisms. They seek instead
to remove the CAUSE of the disease, and since these organisms
are not recognised as causes of disease, no effort is made to
remove or exterminate them. Yet, those patients suffering from so-
called infectious diseases, which are thought to be caused by
invading germs, all recover speedily when the practitioner ignores
the germ and proceeds to remove the true cause of the disease.
This fact is concrete proof that the disease was not only NOT
caused primarily by a germ, but that killing of germs is
unnecessary.

The Naturopath does not deny that these microscopic organisms
exist. He does not deny that, in some cases, these organisms can
be found in the bodies of sick people. What he does deny is that
they are the primary cause of disease.

An unhealthy state of the body tissues is the primary cause of
disease. The presence of germs is secondary and is dependent
upon an unhealthy state of the tissues. We contend that germs
only invade an already unhealthy body. Germs do arise within a

soil which is favourable to them. Germs, bacteria, microbes and
viruses do not and cannot invade a healthy body.

Why?

In order to understand why germs sometimes invade the human
body and their true role in human health it is necessary to know a
few facts about Biology. Biology is the science of living things.
Biologists study all living organisms, how they are constructed,
what they are made of, how they are made, how they work and
their most favourable environment and living conditions. Biology
teaches us that every living organism in the Universe has a set of
essential requirements. These are called Biological Requirements
because they are essential for the life of living things.

These biological requirements are different for different organisms.
Obviously, the biological needs of a fish are very different from the
biological needs of a reptile. And, the biological needs of an
elephant are quite different from the biological needs of a tree or
shrub.

Every living organism has its own peculiar set of biological require-
ments according to its peculiar structure, composition and function.
The tiny lowly organisms, which we generally call genus, are no
different from all other living organisms in the Universe. They have
certain essential biological requirements if they are to live and
thrive.

Germs, like all other organisms, need a congenial environment
where the amount of light is just right. The germ also needs food.
The food, which is suitable for a germ is not the kind of food, which
would be suitable for some other organisms, like human beings.
The kind of food, which would be ideally suited to a germ, would
most likely kill a human being. Conversely the kind of food best
suited to a human being would not suit a germ. Each organism has
its own specific needs and thrives best when these needs are met.
Therefore it is not surprising to find germs in an unhealthy human
body. The materials, which are present when the human body is
unhealthy, happen to be the very materials, which the germ finds
to be suitable for it to use as food.

The Role of the Germ

The true role of the germ is that of a scavenger. Germs, like all
other living organisms, are constantly on the lookout for suitable
food in a suitable environment.

In an unhealthy human body the germ finds all of the things it likes
and needs. The human body provides food, absence of light, an
ideal temperature and the presence of moisture in just the right
proportion. Is it any wonder that germs, which are borne on air,
dust, hands and food find easy access to an unhealthy organism.

Germs are present all over the world in varying numbers according
to the food available and according to the suitability or otherwise of
the environment. Our atmosphere, the earth, our food, our clothing,
our homes, shops and factories are all possible habitats for germs.

Germs do exist but they do not necessarily exist as a threat to
humanity. In fact, I would like to suggest that germs are NOT our
enemies or even potential enemies, but that they are in reality
OUR FRIENDS.

Environment

Before I deal with this claim that germs are our friends and not our
enemies, I would like to discuss something else which is
appropriate at this stage. I made several statements which inferred
that germs only invaded those organisms which provided the right
food and a suitable environment. Here is the concrete proof for
those statements.

Anyone can carry out this simple test at home to prove or disprove
what I say.

Take two clean garbage cans. Stand them side by side a little
distance apart. In the first garbage can you place a few scraps of
decaying food. The second garbage can is left empty. Put the lids
on both cans. Wait for a few days. Lift the lid off the first can. You
will find that it will be infested by all kinds of vermin, flies, worms
and maggots. Lift the lid off the second garbage can and you will
find it to be sweet and clean. Now, replace the lids and wait for
several days more. When you inspect the cans this time you may
be surprised to find that they are both in an almost identical
condition. The first can will be empty, except possibly for a slight
stain in the bottom where the decaying food scraps once laid. The
second can, will of course be empty. You will find no flies in can

number one. There will be no vermin, worms or maggots. Those
people who have studied biology will know what has happened.

The invaders of the first garbage can were nature's scavengers.
The flies laid eggs, which became larvae. The larvae consumed all
of the decaying food and then they developed into flies and flew
away through the gap between the can and the lid.

The scavengers are all part of nature's plan to keep the Universe
liveable. Imagine what our cities and towns, homes, shops and
factories would be like if the garbage collector failed to make his
regular visits. Our environment would soon be congested with
noisome garbage in all stages of decomposition and life would be
intolerable.

The same principle, which applies in nature, applies equally within
the human body. These tiny organisms which we call germs are
our cosmic garbage collectors. But instead of simply taking the
garbage and tipping it into a hole in the ground, our friends the
germs, do an even better job. They actually eat the garbage and
turn it into useful manure.

Nobody would be foolish enough to kill the council garbage man,
so why should we wish to kill our cosmic garbage man, the germ?

Germs Our Friends

Now, let me deal with my claim that germs are not our enemies,
but our potential FRIENDS. Imagine a world without germs. We
would not have butter, cheese or bread. We would not have
alcohol in its many useful forms. We could not grow plants, shrubs,
grass or trees. It is precisely because of our friendly bacteria in our
soil that plants are able to use the nutrients, which provide protein,
which is so essential for plant life. As all food comes from the soil,
we would eventually die of starvation. And as I said before, how
would we live if our garbage were not converted into manure by
our friendly bacteria? The stench and filth would soon make life
impossible. And what about our own bodies? Some life processes,
which are essential to our survival, are dependent upon certain
bacteria in the mouth and intestines. Without these germs we
would sicken and die.

It is not a matter of whether we wish to encourage and assist these
bacteria or not. It is a stark fact that if we persist in our efforts to
make a completely "clean" and sterile world we will soon find that
the price we pay will be sickness and premature death. We can’t

do without germs so we might as well accept this fact intelligently
and learn to live with them to the best of our ability. Germs do exist
and man cannot live for long in a completely germ-free
environment.

The Germ Theory

Current medical teaching is that specific germs cause specific
diseases. This means that one particular kind of germ causes a
particular kind of disease. This is nonsense because in many
cases where one would expect to find a certain germ, no germ can
be found. Sometimes when no germ can be found a virus is said to
be causing the disease. But, when neither germ nor virus can be
found, the sufferer is then said to be a "carrier" of the disease who
is immune to that particular disease. This lame excuse is meekly
accepted by otherwise intelligent people who have never seriously
thought about the subject. This person who has the disease, yet
has no germs in his organisms is said to produce “antibodies"
which have killed the germs - sheer fantasy.

Florence Nightingale Speaks

But, the germ theory is breaking down continually. When
epidemics occur it is often impossible to find the causative germ.
The patients either recover or die and when the excitement is all
over interest soon dies down and the incident is forgotten. I wonder
if my reader is incredulously doubting what I have said up to now.
Could it be that the foregoing is simply the babblings of an idiot? If
so, then I hope to be excused while I call some expert witnesses.
Nobody would have the temerity to doubt the integrity, nursing skill
and knowledge of Florence Nightingale, so I would like to quote
briefly what she had to say about infectious diseases. Here is what
Florence Nightingale wrote in her book NOTES ON NURSING
which she published in 1859. “We must not forget what, in ordinary
language, is called ‘infection’ - a thing of which people are
generally so afraid that they frequently follow the very practice in
regard to it which they ought to avoid. Nothing used to be
considered so infectious or contagious as smallpox; and people,
not very long ago, used to cover up patients with heavy
bedclothes, while they kept up large fires, and shut the windows.
Smallpox of course, under this management, was very ‘infectious’.
People are somewhat wiser now in their management of this
disease. They have ventured to cover the patients lightly and keep

the windows open; and we hear much less of the 'infection' of
Smallpox than we used to do. But do people in our day’s act with
more wisdom on the subject of 'infection' in fevers-scarlet fever,
measles, etc. than their forefathers did with Smallpox? Does not
the popular idea of 'infection' involve that people should take
greater care of themselves than of the patient? That, for instance,
it is safer not to be too much with the patient, not to attend too
much to his wants? True nursing knows nothing of infection,
except to prevent it

Cleanliness and fresh air from open windows, with unremitting
attention to the patient, are the only defence a true nurse either
asks or needs, Wise and humane management of the patient is
the best safeguard against infection. Is it not living in a continual
mistake to look upon diseases, as we do now, as separate things,
which must exist, like cats and dogs? Instead of looking upon them
as conditions, like a dirty and a clean condition, and just as much
under our own control; or rather as the reactions of a kindly nature,
against the conditions in which we have placed ourselves, I was
brought up, both by scientific men, and ignorant women, distinctly
to believe that Smallpox, for instance, was a thing of which there
was once a first specimen in the world, which went on propagating
itself, in a perpetual chain of descent, just as much as that there
was a first dog (or a first pair of dogs), and that Small-pox would
not begin itself any more than a new dog would begin with out
there having been a parent dog. Since I have seen with my eyes
and smelt with my nose Smallpox growing up in first specimens
either in close rooms or in overcrowded wards where it could not
by any possibility have been 'caught', but must have begun. Nay,
more, I have seen diseases begin, grow up, and pass into another.
Now, Dogs do not pass into Cats, I have seen fever grow up; and
with a little more, typhoid fever; and with a little more, typhus; and
all in the same ward or hut.

Would it not be far better, truer and more practical if we looked
upon diseases in this light?

'THE WITCHCRAFT FETISH AND THE GERM FETISH ARE
PRODUCTS OF THE SAME MENTAL CONDITION'.”

Now, what do you think of that? Florence Nightingale realised as
far back as 1859 that the current superstitious belief in the germ
theory was based on a total fallacy.

Professor Bechamp Speaks

Immunisation is the latest craze. People are urged to submit to
injections of poisonous material in the pathetic belief that somehow
this practice will confer a benefit on the person whose body is
assaulted by this noxious substance called an anti-toxin or
immunological agent

It is claimed that when a person is once attacked by the mysterious
germs or viruses, they do not get the disease again. So, disease
germs or viruses are deliberately injected directly into the
bloodstream of a perfectly healthy person. Of course, these
procedures are doomed to failure. Diseases are not caused by
germ invasion. The germ invasion is a direct result of a suitable
environment for their development. Germs are no different from
any other organisms. They thrive where their living conditions are
most favourable. Just as human beings thrive where the food is
best, the temperature favourable, humidity is just right and so on,
so do germs thrive. Germs thrive in darkness, humidity and warmth
and where there is a medium, which carries organic matter in the
process of disintegration. Highly toxic matter provides the ideal diet
for these tiny organisms. Wherever a body is heavily encumbered
with toxic waste matter, germs find their foothold.

Germs, like human beings and other animals, cannot live unless
they have a suitable diet provided for them. An unhealthy body
provides the breeding-ground for germs. They multiply in billions
and their activity is in direct proportion to the amount of food they
are able to find. The excreta from these germs is highly toxic, and
this adds to the general toxic condition of the body. The orthodox
method of treatment is to find the specific germ and then attempt to
kill it by means of drugs or other violent measures.

The idea that a specific germ disease would give a person
protection against another germ disease was the brainchild of
Louis Pasteur. Pasteur was inspired by the example of Edward
Jenner the Englishman, who believed that a person who had
suffered from cowpox could not develop Smallpox. Pasteur was a
chemist who had little knowledge of biology and even less
knowledge of the true nature of health and disease. When Jenner
became famous through his new treatment by injection of
vaccines, Pasteur looked upon Jenner as a great scientist and
decided to follow his lead.

into the causation of disease. He worked on the germ theory and

Bechamp's original material and discovery for his own ends.
Instead of waiting until Bechamp's researches were completed, he
came out with the announcement that he had made a great
discovery. Pasteur distorted Bechamp's teachings, and by astute
public relations works, managed to gain the ascendancy. Bechamp
was a scientist and not a showman. In a short time Pasteur was
hailed far and wide as a genius. Pasteur suggested that he could
protect human beings from disease by inoculating everybody with
the specific germs in a mild form and thus everybody inoculated
would get the disease in a mild form and would never be subject to
the disease in a virulent form

Pasteur acted on the assumption that everybody is liable to
contract a certain disease. He disregarded the fact that many
people do not get this specific disease even if they literally swim in
a bath full of these germs.

The idea that germs cause disease is contrary to the facts. One
good reason for doubting this hypothesis is that in most cases
there is disease present when there is no germ to be found. This is
because the germs have not had time to invade the body and then
multiply. In other cases, one type of germ is found and another
disease altogether is present.

Since we know that germs do exist and since we claim that the
germ does not primarily cause disease, we must seek for the true
explanation of this apparent mystery. The explanation can be
found in the theory of the Microzyma. Antoine Bechamp continued
his researches and found that the germ was not the basic unit.
Going further, he discovered tinier, simpler organisms, which he
called the Microzyma. The presence of this organism explains the
anomaly in the germ theory. Bechamp found that the Microzyma is
benign. It plays a vital role in the human body. Germs are derived
from the Microzyma. When the waste matter on which germs thrive
is all consumed, the germs return to their former state as
Microzyma. The Microzyma changes into a germ and then the
germ changes back into the Microzyma when it is necessary. This
explains the disappearance of germs when the body is able to
overcome its toxic condition. It explains where germs come from
and where they go to.

It is now clear that the Microzyma is a link between the simplest
form of life in the human body and the complex mechanism of
germs. The Microzyma theory also explains why it is possible to

disregard germs when treating disease by the methods of Natural
healing.

Naturopaths entirely disregard germs in their treatment of disease.
All of their efforts are directed towards the detoxification or
cleansing of the organism. When the organism is thoroughly
cleansed of it's accumulations of poisonous waste matter, the
germs mysteriously disappear without leaving a trace. Where do
they go? It is obvious that they revert to the Microzyma stage
where they are quite harmless. Our theory is that when a human
body becomes saturated with poisonous material, the Microzyma
automatically develop into germs. These germs immediately set
about the work of devouring this harmless material. As long as we
do not continue producing toxic matter it will not be long before the
germs, acting as scavengers, will rid the body of the offending
matter.

The germs will revert to their original state as Microzyma and the
disease will subside. All germ diseases are thus seen to be self-
limiting if treated correctly. If we listen to the voice of our organism,
and if we treat the condition by natural means, there will be no
danger of germs over-running the body and posing a threat to its
welfare.

And, that brings me to a consideration of the work of a man whose
name I have mentioned several times. It appears that Florence
Nightingale forecast in 1859 what Professor Antoine Bechamp
discovered about the same time and which he published in 1883.
In case you might tend to brush this gentleman aside as being of
no account I would like to list a few of his qualifications. Professor
Antoine Bechamp was a Frenchman who was born in 1828. He
was a Master of Pharmacy, Doctor of Science, Doctor of Medicine,
Professor of Medical Chemistry and Pharmacy, Fellow and
Professor of Physics and Toxicology, Professor of Chemistry,
Professor of Biological Chemistry. He had many other honours and
titles but those 1 have quoted are sufficient to indicate that he was
a man of learning and academic authority.

It is not easy to translate into simple terms the exact teaching on
germs as laid down by Professor Bechamp. However, I will try to
interpret as simply as I can what Bechamp thought about disease,
germs and the Microzyma.

Bechamp said that diseases do NOT arise because of anything
outside the human body. He said that disease is born of our
tissues and inside our tissues. In all healthy organisms and all

through nature the Microzymas (or tiny organisms) are ever
present and harmless. In the diseased body, (that is, one which is
toxaemic) the Microzymas can change into bacteria or germs.
Germs cannot exist in the air, the earth, water or food or in a
healthy body because germs can only arise in putrid material, as is
found in an unhealthy body. The micro organisms known as
disease germs are in reality Microzymas which have evolved into
germs inside sick bodies.

The Septic Tank

It is a curious fact that Bacteriologist’s have known about the
benign function of bacteria for many years, but have failed to apply
the correct line of reasoning to the action of germs inside the
human body.

For many years Bacteriologist’s and plumbers have known that in
order to convert dead organic material into a harmless substance
like pure water, we need only to employ a Septic Tank using the
same germs which are thought to be the cause of disease. All over
the world septic tanks are employed to convert human excreta into
harmless saline constituents and pure water. The name septic tank
means a tank which is infested with bacteria. A septic tank is one
where material rots and becomes pure drinkable water.

Stubbornness

Many years ago Winifred Sealby wrote in an article which
appeared in the Manly Daily newspaper – “the germ theory of
disease, that most terrible of all medical failures, is slowly tottering
to its inglorious end - a sorry monument to the cruelty, stupidity
and avarice of our modern civilisation.”

The key word here is 'slowly'. It is regrettable that in 1980 when we
can look back on 100 years of tremendous scientific achievement;
the telephone, the electric light, radio, television, the motor car, the
aeroplane and space travel to the moon, man still stubbornly clings
to superstitious notions like the germ theory. Orthodoxy dies hard
in some quarters. But not all medical people are reactionary and
stubborn. There have been a few advanced thinkers who have
been able to shed their 'blinkers' and have investigated the
teachings of Naturopathy, and belatedly, the teachings of
Professor Bechamp. Those independent and courageous thinkers
have found that it is not the germ which causes disease but the

the human body, which causes disease. It therefore follows that if
the breaking down and building up of body cells, which we call
Metabolism, is perfectly balanced, disease cannot occur.

If the Microzymas are fed on healthy materials they too will remain
healthy but if they are fed on unsuitable and harmful materials,
they change from harmless Microzymas into a new form of
organism. And this new form of organism is the germ, which acts
as a scavenger, to consume the harmful material which poses a
threat to the welfare of the body. A friend of mine once said
'Bacteria, like Bacteriologist’s must eat - How true. So we look, not
to the Bacteriologist, to help us to solve this problem. They have a
vested Interest in disease. We must look in the right place if we are
to discover the truth about germs.

We must look to the food on which the germs feed, rather than to
the germs themselves. Germs live on decaying, rotting material.
Germs cannot live on wholesome living food. It is not in their
nature, just as it is not in our nature, to live on decaying or rotting
material. Our organisms are entirely different from the organisms
of germs and our needs are consequently different. Before germs
can cause fermentation they must have a suitable medium in
which to work. And that suitable material is precisely the kind found
in an unhealthy human body. Nothing could be simpler to
understand Germs cannot decompose the living tissues of a
healthy human being. Such a proposition is impossible and
unthinkable.

It is a law of nature that the higher forms of life can attack and
destroy lower forms of life. Germs are very simple organisms and,
as far as we know, the lowest form of life. Germs are the smallest
and weakest forms of life that human beings encounter. It would be
unthinkable if germs were able to attack and destroy a human
being.

A Chihuahua dog would not attack an Alsatian dog. The Alsatian
dog could make one mouthful of the tiny Mexican dog. All through
nature it is the stronger, the larger and more powerful animals
which habitually attack and kill a smaller animal.

So it is with man and his environment. If man's environment is
suitable, if his diet and life-style are favourable, then there is
nothing in his tissues which could harbour and sustain the lowly
germ.

Sir Robert McCarrison Speaks

Hundreds of books containing millions of words have been written
on bacteriology. (This is simply a long word meaning the study of
how germs are supposed to cause disease. It is a profession
based on an utter fallacy. But no matter how much has been
written it all boils down to the same pathetic fallacy. It is the belief
by so-called grown men and women in 20th century witchcraft and
fantasy).

In 1920 in a speech to the Royal Society in London, professor Sir
Robert McCarrison said: “Obsessed with the invisible microbe,
virus and protozoa as all-important constituents of disease
subservient to laboratory methods of diagnosis, hidebound by our
system of nomenclature (arrangement of names) we often forget
that the most fundamental of all rules for the physician, the right
kind of food is the most important single factor in the promotion of
health and the wrong kind of food is the most Important factor in
the promotion of disease.”

Much more could be said against the germ theory and much more
could be said In favour of the toxaemia theory. Those who would
like to go into greater detail about the germ theory and its rival, the
Microzyma theory, could not do better than read the book
BECHAMP OR PASTEUR? by Ethel Douglas Hume, published by
the C. W. Daniel Company, London. Those who would like to
investigate the Toxaemia theory of disease causation will find it
fully covered in my own booklet THE CAUSE OF DISEASE by K.S.
Jaffrey and also in TOXAEMIA EXPLAINED by Dr. J.H. Tilden.

In Conclusion

Finally, the lesson we have to learn is that the germs which inhabit
this universe are not necessarily harmful to man. Under normal
conditions germs of all kinds have their part to play in maintaining
the ecological balance of nature. There can be a harmonious inter-
relationship between all living organisms in our environment if we
will only adopt a favourable life-style. We should try to live in
harmony with nature so the germs, which are an integral part of
our environment, will be enabled to produce our food and other
useful commodities and so the germs inside our bodies can
perform their essential functions, and last but by no means least,
we should try to understand the germs in our environment which
act as useful scavengers keeping our habitat clean and
wholesome.

Once in the vessels then the lymph is transported until it reaches either the right or left lymphatic ducts. These drain into the subclavian veins.
Graeme Wardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00133175238737284989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2250820976379891286.post-72200506122039068752021-12-20T08:40:00.003+11:002021-12-20T08:40:43.232+11:00
The Seven Principles of Health (plus One More)

This interview came about after my participation in writing a piece for an upcoming book '1000 Ripple Effects' being written and edited by Stacey Huish. As a result of this interview Anna produced a podcast which is available by clicking the link below.
The topic of the interview is "What advice would you give to your 14 year old self".
I hope that you enjoy listening to the podcast and that you get something from it that helps to uplift your day and life. Namaste 🙏
My Story.I am reposting this from 2008

A few of years ago a friend tells me about a guy who is going to speak here in town about self care and self education. Sounds real interesting, so I go along and listen and see. I hear this guy speak about whole foods, self care and self education. I like what I hear, it sort of fits well with my thinking. He sure is a smart guy even if he looks like a cowboy, his name is Don Tolman. I meet him briefly and decide to go to his BootCamp.

I go there, this guy really does knows his stuff. We talk some more and I come back home. I'm going to do this juice cleanse, fourteen days, only juice, no other food. Problem, I don't have a juicer. Have to wait, too busy anyway.

Come to another introductory night, this guy must have been studying hard since last time, he makes more sense than ever........ After the talk I meet up with him again, we talk some more. We're like old buddies. Again I go to BootCamp. There is stuff there this time that wasn't there last time, I'm sure. Come back home, I'm really going to do this juice cleanse this time. Finally get a cold press juicer and begin the juice cleanse.

The same day I start I have a series of blood tests and leave all medications to go stale! ........ But wait, I need to back up a bit. Two years prior to all this I suffered an acute heart attack, you know one of those that sixty percent of people don't survive. I knew just enough to be able to recognise the signs and get to hospital real quick. Like I had two stents in my heart within an hour and a half of the first symptoms. Five days later I leave the coronary care unit and come home with instructions to be rigorous with my pharmasuitikill medisins, five different tablets to take for the rest of my life was the message. Also low fat, low salt, low sugar. Didn't realise that low salt leads to the debilitating effects of poor sleep patterns .... Just for starters .... Amazing that, the first thing they do in Hospital is put a catheter in your arm and pour salty water into your blood......... Did I miss something?

OK, I'm into this juice cleanse, (CABALA Juice), haven't taken a tablet since day one. Fourteen days later, I'm feeling real good, do the clay and seeds bit, and the next day, ... well .... that's a whole lot better. Find I've released some weight, in fact about ten percent of my body weight.

I stay with the juice, at least one and a quarter litres a day and start eating some raw fruit and vegetables. This isn't too bad, I know what I'm going to be eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That for me is low stress, few choices, not having to figure out the daily meal ritual of industrialised processed empty food.

Two months after I start the cleanse I have another series of blood tests, time to go see the cardiologist again. You guessed it, lipids down, cholesterol down, LDL down, HDL up, blood sugar down. All parameters within the recommended range, and all achieved without the benefit of pharmasuitikill drugs and their insidious other effects..... Blood pressure normal, heart rate normal, blood condition excellent. The cardiologist warns me that I must take the drugs as this is what the protocols call for otherwise I'll die. There is a warning sticker on statin drug boxes which say do not eat grapefruit while taking this medication... um er poison. Well I'm eating one to two medium sized grapefruit each day including as much of the white as I can. So here I am some years later, still alive, standing and healthier... and no drugs!! Did I miss something? .....

Now I rarely get tired in the late afternoon and I can sleep soundly for six to eight hours. I'm saving myself an inordinate amount of time and money each month by not having doctors visits for prescriptions, prescription fees at the pharmacy and I'm saving the Health Benefits Scheme countless thousands of dollars per year. The fruit and vegetables I juice and eat each day cost me less than what I used to spend on breakfast. Further, I'm saving myself the long term debilitating effects of pharmasuitikill drugs by taking control of my own health care.

Has my investment been worth it?....... You bet it has, just for the self care. Add in the inspirational self education and you have an exceptional package.

Where to from here. I would recommend you consider implementing a raw whole food diet or at the very least a modified one ...... with minimal cooked food.... and I invite you to join me in taking control of your own health.

If you are not able to make it on your own or you feel you would like some assistance then send me an email........ gjward@graemeward.com ....with the topic raw whole foods and I'll be glad to help.
That is a surefire way to get started on the road to self care, self education and taking control of your own life.
In the pursuit health and happiness, love and kindness. Firstly I have not worn shoes and socks as a matter of course. In the last three months I have worn shoes and socks on five days only. Secondly I take my daily walk barefooted at least four days a week. The other times I wear a pair of five finger running shoes. This is the first time in winter I can recall that I haven’t had cold feet on going to bed or during the day. What I have noticed is that my feet still get warm and sometimes sweaty or cold and wet if it is raining, but they dry off quickly and stay warm.
So my feet are warm. The other thing that always happened during winter was that my heels were rough and had cracks that were often sore and uncomfortable. This winter they are smooth and have no cracks. I rub them each time I shower with a loofah. I found it took a while to get rid of the rough skin, but now it is gone and doesn’t look like returning.
The other benefit of walking barefooted is to feel the ground, the textures and the warmth and to be grounded.

One Year On From Open Heart Surgery
Most mornings I walk three to four kilometres before breakfast. I like the early morning air which at the moment is mild and dry as there is a prolonged dry, hot spell of weather here in Melbourne. Today for me is a special day in that one year ago I underwent open-heart surgery for a double by-pass graft. Thinking back, I am so grateful for so many things in my life, least of all being able to exercise. A little over a year ago walking was not a pleasurable experience. Even a short walk on flat ground of 100 metres or so would let me know that blood circulation to my heart was seriously compromised. I would experience shortness of breath and mild pain in my arm and chest. Not much fun.
How different is it for me now. I can walk at a pace of about 5 km an hour on flat ground and uphill without as much as having any sign of breathlessness or discomfort whatever. That is so good. Maybe it is diet, fresh air, sunshine, mostly raw fresh fruit and vegetables and exercise with some love and passion in life that helps.
I’m particularly grateful to my extended family and friends who gave wonderful support before, during and after my stay in hospital.
Recently I had the opportunity of being a member of the support team for two very good friends, Alan Murray and Janette Murray-Wakelin in their quest to run around Australia. http://www.runningrawaroundaustralia.com .
There are a number of extraordinary aspects to this quest. They live on raw whole foods only, fruit, vegetables, seeds and nuts. No cooked or processed or animal products whatsoever. Each day they run a marathon, 42.2km in about 6 hrs, come rain, hail or shine, and they have had all the above and more.
A couple of other things about them is that Janette is a breast cancer survivor of some 10 years and more and both are over 60 years of age. Their website is http://www.runningrawaroundaustralia.com .
Upon joining the crew which was for me an unexpected call, I was confronted with a couple of possible challenges. Early morning wake up, 4:15A and start running about an hour later, early to bed around 8P. Then there was the food, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Was I going to have any detox symptoms as I had not followed a strict raw food diet with the odd black coffee, glass of wine or beer and sometimes bread and on rare celebratory occasions, birthday cake.
Fortunately the symptoms I had were minor and transcient, a headache that occurred after a couple of days that I was only aware of if I had the time to think about it. The other thing I hadn’t experienced for sometime was was sleeping out under the stars. This was one thing I was so pleased to be able to enjoy.
Each day was similar to the previous one except for changes in scenery, weather and location. During each day we met up with some wonderful people, often curious to know what was afoot. Of course the team were eager to enlighten them.
Wake up was around 4:15A each day, get ready to run, pack up some of the camp, then start running around 5:15A. During the first week I would pack up the camp and prepare to move. Ping and Maureen, the other crew members usually followed later. After Francine joined and Ping and Maureen left we would usually travel together.
By around 6:30A I was on the move, albeit not too fast. I only had to travel 12 to 14 km before the first stop at around 7A. This was usually at a rest stop for travellers.
Would set up for the runners to arrive, often preparing a green smoothie for them to start with. The van was equipped with a large heavy duty battery and an inverter. Charging for the battery was from the car but more from the solar panels mounted on the roof of the van. This was sufficient to power the blender and the juicer along with the computers, light and fridges. Sometimes the charge ran a bit low but sunrise soon changed that.
After the first stop of about half an hour, the runners were on their way again.
Next stop was again 12 to 14 km further on. The runners usually made this at around 10:30A. For the crew it was a leisurely drive as there was no rush. Another rest spot, most times beside the road or just off on a side road.
A few times when there was rain and wind the runners were not only wet but also cold so the stops were closer together to allow them to dry off, warm up and temporarily have dry clothes.
More fruit, often just one thing, watermelon, rock melon, oranges, bananas, pineapple or whatever was ripe at the time.
The last stop before finding a camp for the night was usually at around 36km for the day.
Sometimes the recharge included avocado, olives and sundried tomatoes as well as more fruit. After this stop the next one was the stop for the night.
Fortunately there were lots of side roads adjacent to the highway where a reasonably quiet camp could be made. If we were on the coast a diversion to a beach site was preferable.
This was great for a swim and a wash, a walk along the beach and the salt air.
Occasionally a caravan park was at the end of the days run. Hot showers and clean clothes, what luxury. More often than not the owners were very accommodating and glad to have us a guests.
We had the occasional visit from friends who lived nearby or were passing through. I had one evening where I was able to visit my dear friends Deb Field and Jerry Jackson. So good to visit friends at home, special time.
Apart from variations in the weather and the landscape, each day had a similar pattern to it.
After 16 days on the road my tour came to an end. I bid farewell and headed south to Sydney.
Maybe there is some truth in the adage that if you do something for a fortnight it becomes a habit. What I found was that I’d been driving at about 60 kph most of the fortnight towing the van. Seemed so strange to get into Brad’s car and head south toward Sydney. Soon realised that highway driving was 100 plus not 60. The first hour was a bit of a challenge endeavouring to maintain speed. The next thing was sitting there for so long without a break. Half an hour had been a long stint over the last few weeks. However with persistence and hindsight I knew I could make it.
I’m so grateful to have the health and been able to experience the last month or so.

This is an exquisite way of possibly cleansing the mouth and the whole body of excesses of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other parasites and their toxins. Not only will it help remove these but also other toxins like traces of heavy metals and pesticides and other ‘ides. The ideal time for oil pulling is first thing in the morning before you have had anything to eat or drink. Anything that has found a cosy place in the mouth overnight is in for a shock. Instead of a nice drop of clean warm water to wallow in and then be washed into the warm confines of the stomach, a little pure virgin cold pressed coconut oil is encountered. All the more disturbing for the inhabitants of the mouth should the oil be laced with a few drops of oregano oil or clove oil. There are a couple of reflexes that may be encountered, the swallow reflex and the gag reflex. Persevere and you will overcome both of these and be able to swish the oil around in you mouth for up to twenty minutes or so before spitting it out. After you have finished, it is as well to swish you mouth out with clean water a couple of times, again resisting the urge to swallow.

Well may you ask, ‘What and how much oil, what kind of oil, what can I do while swishing this stuff and any number of other questions.”

Here it is, so simple:

First thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything!

Do the following:-

Take one tablespoon of cold pressed virgin oil. (I like coconut oil). Some find it easier to scape out the solid oil from the jar and allow it to liquify in the mouth.

You may like to add two drops of oregano or clove oil. This is great for compromising bacteria and fungi.

Then just spoon it into you mouth and swish it around. By the way if you have a denture or plate, then best leave it out. Don’t swallow the stuff. Spit it out when the time is up. Best to spit it somewhere other than the sink as the oil will solidify and could block the drain. Then swish you mouth with water a couple of times and spit that out. You may also feel you need to brush you teeth. If you do, maybe keep a separate brush for this and clean it well when you finish brushing.

While you are swishing the oil around you may find it best to sit quietly and read or listen to something or just to have some quiet time.

Just remember this is not prescriptive, make it fun and have fun doing it.

You may find that there are lots of side effects to this activity. Don’t worry about things like whiter teeth, healthier gums, cavities disappearing, no bad breath, better sleep, clearer skin, and many others. They just come with oil pulling. Just enjoy the pleasant outcomes.

The Salt Covenant

The salt covenant consists of drinking one litre of water first thing in the morning to which has been added 1 tablespoon of sea salt, not rock salt. If the body has a balance of salt then this has the effect of flushing out the colon soon after drinking. However if the body is lacking in salt, this flushing effect does not occur until such time as the body has a sufficient reserve of salt. Once this level has been attained then the covenant helps to clear out the gut and the colon and in doing so helps with keeping discomfort and disease away.

Because the excess of salt is toxic, nausea may be experienced but this will soon pass. The effect sometimes results in a sudden need for a bowel movement so it is as well to be near a toilet. Hence it may well be that it is best undertaken at a time when schedules are flexible and you don’t have to rush of to work or meetings and etc.

Initially the covenant may be taken daily, then as your body is cleansed then this may be reduced to two or three times a week, to weekly, fortnightly and etc. Just as you feel necessary.

The amount of salt in the water is not prescriptive, it is only an indication. A little more salt or more water may be in order so that it is palatable. Remember to have fun.

It is now almost six months since I had open heart surgery and two by-pass grafts.
Prior to this I had a heart attack 8 years prior. At the time the cardiologist warned me that come what may I would be back in hospital in two to three years time for by-pass grafts in five locations. There were five places in the cardiac artery where there were severe blockages. A bit daunting to say the least.
I changed my lifestyle dramatically after that. The resulting outcome was that three of those blockages disappeared completely along with the deposit at the site of the stents as did some other minor artery deposits.
There was two blockages which didn't clear up and these had the by-pass grafts.
Most days I walk at least 45 minutes and there is always an uphill climb involved. I am so grateful that I can do this without any feeling of breathlessness, chest pains or weakness.
So different to the time leading up to surgery when I had to think seriously about walking up a flight of stairs because of the potential discomfort I would experience. Fortunately for me I have not experienced any of the numerous complications that some are afflicted with after such a procedure.

Now I am concentrating on improving my health and fitness by continuing to following the seven principles I’ve referred to elsewhere. The medical procedures associated with open heart are very invasive and as such have some effects that take some time to recover from.
There is significant shock that the body endures just with the physical mechanical part of the operation and then having to repair the tissues that have been cut and otherwise damaged.
Then there is also the immune response to any potential bacterial invasion to be overcome.
I can recall the first few times that I had any idea of what was going on while in intensive care. Seems that there was always a nurse holding up two vials of morphine and asking did I have any pain. I don’t recall experiencing pain, soreness and discomfort.
The pain management drugs together with the other blood conditioning drugs take some time be totally eliminated from the body, I’m sure.
However following a whole food diet of mostly raw fruit and vegetables has certainly been worth while in the recovery process. I’ve still a way to go yet before I feel I am strong and fit and able to go back to work.
The best thing at the moment is that I do not suffer from any debilitating after effects.

Breaking your fast is harder than fasting. Your digestive system is now sensitive and needs time to reactivate.

The key is eating lightly, over a period of four days, and transitioning gradually onto a new, planned and more healthy regular diet. Going back to your previous diet will return you again to where you were! What's worse is, it is a shock to your system and can be disastrous and may cause stomach cramps, nausea and weakness.

Continue with the juice and add whole food snacks.

Breaking your fast requires self discipline. After 14 days you know that is something you have a lot of! Eat small amounts to gently wake up your digestion whilst continuing to drink juice. Gradually increase the amount of raw fruit and vegetables as you go along. This can be the start of eating smaller, more sustainable meals.

Only eat when you feel hungry, not necessarily at meal times. Take salad and fruit snacks with you to work so you are not tempted by the cafe's, food courts or lunch vans. Remember that hunger is often mistaken for thirst, so keep up your water/fluid balance of 1 litre per 22kg of body weight.

Eat half as much as you want, but twice as often to gently reawaken your digestive system.

AGING PROCESS

From the time we are born we begin an often slow and bumpy progression toward the end of life. Through the ages that humans evolved, some 150,000 years or thereabouts, the average lifespan has varied dramatically. Apart from accidents that prematurely ended a life, the lifespan is primarily related to the recipe of life that is followed. Looking at families, we often find a pattern passed from generation to generation, a pattern of living. Most people do and live as their parents and grandparents did, following a similar lifestyle, diet and environment. So their lifespan was similar from generation to generation. Exceptions occurred where one person would live to a 100 plus years of age and often be self sufficient for their whole lifetime. Other members could be much younger and be reliant on others due to diseases of premature aging. Most would be suffering from some disease that has some degree of debilitation associated with it. Close examination of the recipe of life that is being followed would often show a pattern of toxaemia, - a build up of toxicity over a lifetime. Most toxicity would be due to what is taken through the mouth, some would be attributable to what is breathed and to what is absorbed through the skin, and some to what may have been injected into veins and muscle.

The aging process – take ownership and control of your body and your health, remember it is the only one you have and if it breaks down where will you live.

There are many things that go on in our bodies on a daily basis causing us to age, one way or the other.

Oxidation is one of them, characterised by many things. The extremes of oxidation are the cause of premature death due to dietary, environmental and lifestyle choices. If we take a glass of clean water to represent our body, which incidentally is about 72% water and add to it a small amount of a strong oxidant in the form of iodine. We now have a representation of a toxic body state. Ideally this is not good as we use up a lot of energy to try and sustain our life in this state. However it is readily reversible by adding anti-oxidants such as vitamins found in fresh fruit and vegetables, and in particular vitamin C. In this case the vitamin C is coming from a lemon. Mixing the juice of a lemon in the glass of water it quickly neutralises the iodine and clears the water. However there are some other things in there that make it less than palatable, as evidenced by the chemical smell.

Fruit such as an apple have natural anti-oxidants present, but in small amounts. When the apple is cut in half, it quickly begins to turn brown as the available anti-oxidants are used up. This browning can be delayed by adding the juice of a lemon to the cut surface. This oxidising effect is caused by oxygen atoms binding with other atoms causing an imbalance called free radicals. This begins a chain reaction as the unstable molecules capture adjoining electrons momentarily and attack other molecules that in this case are part of our body cells. This imbalance can be readily neutralised by anti-oxidants or protector inhibitor nutrients.

Mice that have been genetically modified so that after birth they do not absorb anti-oxidants die within a very short time. Fortunately for us, given the right conditions, we are able to absorb anti-oxidants and maintain a level sufficient to neutralise attacks from free radicals so that our life is not compromised.

The paradox with anti-oxidants is that we need to breathe oxygen to live and this is one of the things that causes oxidation and free radicals.

A series of tests were made some time ago using an anti-oxidant scanner which measured the levels of carotinoids in the skin which is directly related to the anti-oxidants available. The interesting thing observed was that people who lived on the SAD diet had a low level of anti-oxidants. Supplementation with vitamin pills marginally increased the levels of anti-oxidants in some subjects, sometimes, depending on the manufacture and the ingredients in the pill. Vegetarians who ate a mix of raw and cooked fruit and vegetables had significantly higher levels again. The highest levels were observed in people who lived on a raw vegan diet and took nothing that was manufactured. These are the people who rarely if ever have a cold and who can run a marathon one day and get up and run again the next day. The recuperative strength is amazing.

Metabolism also has a bearing on the aging process. When we chew the plants in our mouths it is called making the bolus, a Latin word meaning “round mass” or “lump of earth.” Metabolize comes of “meta” meaning, “after change” and bolus to, “throw a lump”. Metabolising what we eat then means how we change that into a state that we can absorb.

The body is made up of some 65 billion cells, skin cells, muscle cells, bone cells to name a few types. Each cell has a DNA that tells it what it is and how to remake itself and how to reproduce itself, it is in fact akin to a bundle of plans and specifications for a building construction. However if the DNA is damaged by free radicals, then their reproduction may not be complete and accurate and the cell may be defective. Subsequent reproduction will replicate this defect and may well add further defects This can be mitigated by first minimising damage through adequate levels of anti-oxidants and secondly by the presence of enzymes. Although enzymes do not take part they are a catalyst in forming the repair. Enzymes oversee the reproduction and ensure that any imperfections are remedied immediately. The DNA is subjected to damage caused by up to 10,000 hits per day which if not repaired will gradually over a period of years cause mutations. These mutations may take 10, 20, 30, or more years to manifest in the form of degenerative diseases and conditions.

The DNA is unique to you and has taken over 150,000 years to evolve and the legacy in the evolutionary cycle is you.

The damage to the DNA in the aging process is readily visible, look at the reflection in the mirror, and compare it to your baby photo. Is there a difference? Our cells are continually renewed and over time our whole body is renewed. Albeit modified due to the periodic damage suffered by the DNA that is not 100% repaired.

The body continuously replaces cells, look at the flakes of skin that we shed on a daily basis. The cells are replaced about every three months.

Again going back a 100 years ago, if a person had a heart attack, it took a specialist doctor to diagnose as it was so uncommon. Now heart disease is the most common disease in the western world.

These 65 million cells that make up the body all have a component called a mitochondria that is the power plant for the cell. When converting the simple sugars to energy, about 5 % produce oxygen free radicals which are able to attack the DNA. If there is a surplus of anti-oxidants available then this threat is neutralised or at least minimised.

The diseases that are prevalent in western society such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are not caught from someone breathing on you or sneezing near you. They are all a result of what has happened to you as result of choices that you have made or have been foisted upon you. Some of these choices may have been made without fully understanding that they could in time result in these diseases developing. Such things as contaminated air or water from urban environments or the spraying of herbicides and pesticides in rural environments.

Probably the most common thing in western society that causes these diseases is the food we eat and what we drink. How often do we see families or small communities that follow very similar diets from generation to generation and all experience similar outcomes in terms of diseases and age related disability. Then there is the odd rebel within these groups who for one reason or another follows a different lifestyle recipe. This one may change after starting to experience the early symptoms of these diseases and find that after a period of time that the symptoms start to remit. Just because diseases develop, it does not mean that they cannot be cured, in medical parlance, or in natural terms, reversed.

During the mid 18th century there were two members of the French academy of science, one was Louis Pasteur, the other was Antoine Bechamp. There were great arguments between the pair as to what caused diseases. Pasteur had the germ theory, all diseases were as a result of germs. Bechamp and another contemporary, Claude Bernard, on the other hand believed that all diseases were as a result of the inner terrain, the condition of the body and in particular as to how toxic the body was. Pasteur and the fledgling allopathic medical system recognised that it would be more profitable and controllable to sell medicines to kill or control the germs. The fact that the germs would return at the first opportunity was a guarantee of continual income. The medical system at the time steered clear of Bechamp and his theory of toxicity because the treatment to change the condition of the inner terrain was simple, change the lifestyle. There were no skilled procedures or patent medicines involved. It was not a case of do it for me and make me well again, it was up to the person to change their ways and once changed and maintained the disease would reverse and never be experienced again.

However the western world is now experiencing the largest increase in the older population with the baby boomers born after the second world war who are now entering the latter part of life. Looking ahead, most people are reluctantly looking forward to declining health and mobility. Restricting their lifestyle and enjoyment, being a burden on the health system and their families and ending up living either dependant upon the family or in care.

The alternative is to change now if you are in that group or any group and take ownership and control of your body and your life. When you think about it, you only have one house in which you can live, without it where are you going to go. There is no one else who will try harder to keep you going than you, what’s the point. So look after the physical body, the longer it lives and the healthier it is the better of you will be.

The ancient Egyptians spoke of the river of life in the human body. What they were referring to was the alimentary canal and in particular the lower part of that canal, the colon. Along with the other ancient civilisations they realised that if the colon didn’t work properly then the whole body was compromised. Ask anyone you know who has suffered from constipation. Their river of life stopped flowing temporarily and in doing so became very toxic. Getting the flow going again quite often required some extreme measures which I do not plan to elaborate on in this discourse, but a vivid imagination may help.

100,000 YEARS OF EVOLUTION

Looking back in time to the earliest appearance of homo sapiens on this earth, some 150,000 years ago and thinking of how they would have lived. Here’s a scenario, they looked around them to see what was edible for a start. There would have no doubt been a lot of green, grasses, shrubs and trees year round. Then there would have been tubers and roots, also year round that would have been edible. Seasonal changes would have seen the appearance of berries, fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts among other things that were edible. Experience would have been rather a severe teacher, in some cases in learning what plants or parts were poisonous and to be avoided at all costs. No doubt they would come across an animal from time to time that would be killed and eaten. Essentially we lived as gatherers and hunters, gathering stuff that grew, a relatively simple activity. The hunting would have been restricted in the main most likely to small animals, birds and fish. The daunting task of hunting a woolly mammoth or a bison on a regular basis or shopping for the same at Coles or Woolworths defies logic. The energy and the danger involved would mean that many people would live their whole life without experiencing the hunt for large animals. What I am surmising is that the diet would have been predominately a vegetarian diet with a supplement of raw flesh, much in the way that we tend to consume oysters au naturale.

There would have been in some areas severe seasonal cycles of feast and famine bought about by drought, fire and flood. The ability to mitigate these effects would have been limited, however bear in mind that it would have been a lot easier to migrate into more prolific and consistent areas. Apart from young and old family members, moving would have been relatively simple, no cats to the cattery or dogs to the kennels, or homes to be sold. The severe effects that a more sedentary population would have suffered would be somewhat less in some respects.

Thinking back over the last 20 years in Australia, if we didn’t have the wonders of the 21st century to help us, our food supply no doubt would have been compromised. We would have experienced some lean times between the long drought, bushfires and floods. We no doubt would have experienced some times of extreme famine as has been the experience in recent times in parts of Africa. The western world for the most part, particularly over the last few hundred years has only in the main experienced feast cycles. However at what cost to our health has the 21st century lifestyle been.

Looking again at the early man and his food, he evolved along side of foods like apples, peaches, plums, carrots, taro, sweet potato, sunflower, raspberries, dandelion and mustard to name a few. The fore runners of these would in some cases bear little resemblance to what we now know, however the genetic origins are there and the imprint is in our genes and DNA that allows us to identify the food and how to deal with it when we eat it. Given these foods in their identifiable form, that is a whole food, the body knows how to digest it and what to do with it. Then the body can build the strength it needs to survive and function as an efficient, robust and healthy being in which you can live. This will enable a long and stress free life where any attacks from bacteria or other microbes can be dealt with and suppressed. Where any physical damage occurs then providing it is not too severe and any skin breakages are not too bad then the body can heal itself. Even to the extent where say a joint on a finger is severed, then the stub will, given the right conditions regrow the severed part. Most of us would have experienced a cut that left a significant scar when it healed and some years later when you go looking for it, the scar is no longer there, despite the fact that maybe the cosmetic surgeon didn’t get to have a practice on it. The body knows how if it is only left alone to do its job.

About 10,000 years ago in the Indus valley and Mesopotamia there was the start of a revolution that would lead to what we know as the industrial food system. Someone observed some seeds growing on grasses that could in the right time be gathered and crushed to produce what was the forerunner of flour. The seeds that were spilt and left on the ground grew the next season and produced a usable head of seed. Some bright spark then quickly figured out that instead of having to hunt all over the place to collect enough seed to grind into flour why not stir up some cleared ground and scatter some seeds there in a controlled manner. This meant that all the usable heads were in one place and during the growing season they could be protected and nurtured. Some dreamer observing these crops realised that some heads were more prolific than others and decided to save only the most robust and prolific specimens for planting the next season, so began the art of selective breeding. Today we end up with varieties of cereal that have all sorts of different traits that fulfil the specific requirements of the industrial food processors. Never mind that the grain from which the flour was ground some 10,000 years ago produced a loaf of whole grain that included all the parts. Now the grain is processed so that all the constituent parts are extracted and the flour only is used to produce a loaf. Too bad the body asks where is the rest of it so that at least it has all the enzymes necessary to digest it and identify what it really is. This is one example of what happens in the industrial food system.

Until recently you could search the internet and find what was in a serve of French fries that you would buy from McDonalds. It has been taken down now, however there were some 83 ingredients listed, mind you most of them only as traces. So from a potato, a little fat or oil and some salt, the industrial food system adds all these other ingredients and my guess is that they were not all added for their nutritional benefit. Just maybe some of these ingredients are unintentionally adding to the toxic load that the body is subjected to in the twenty first century and at some future time this toxicity will overwhelm and the outcomes dealt with one way or another.

The 80 other ingredients or additives in the French fries are typical of the 100,000 food additives that are approved around the world. Mind you not all authorities approve the same ones, there is a vast discrepancy. What one country forbids, another will approve. Some countries have an abysmal record of approving toxic additives upon payment of an appropriate fee. The next time you look at or buy potato chips with some flavouring have a look at the ingredient list. A simple list of say potato, oil and salt becomes a list as long as your arm, some of the ingredients are numbers or names of things that you never hear of in a vegetable garden. These additives make up the 4kg per year that the average person on a SAD diet would ingest. If you think of it in terms of sugar or flour, that is a lot of stuff to eat.

We assume that these additives are approved for us by the relevant authorities who have our best interests in mind. This is not necessarily so, many have been approved and then subsequently withdrawn much to the chagrin of the manufacturers and suppliers. There are some 5000 combinations of additives banned in Australia that are approved for consumption in the US and Europe.

The problem with these additives is that they build up in the body over time. The effect is not immediate, in fact the effect can manifest long after the additive has been ingested. Only when another additive arrives and reacts with the dormant one does it become a problem and lead to an ailment. By that time the original additive may have been long forgotten and overlooked when looking for a cause of the condition.

One solution to the problem of additives is to stay clean. Our society makes it difficult as the industrial food industry is so entrenched in the food supply chain. A simple solution is only to eat whole foods and keep away from drugs. Two examples of drugs as additives is where antibiotics are added to animal feed and the residue ends up in the meat you eat and the milk that you drink.

Some of the approved additives make you wonder who has their eye on the ball, so to speak. Added calcium to manufactured milk. Have you ever heard of a poddy calf fed whole milk directly from its mother developing osteoporosis when it grows to adult hood. Australia, New Zealand and the USA are among the highest per capita consumers of dairy products, plenty of calcium there for your bones we are told. What we are not told is that among other things the dairy actually produces an acid residue that the body has to somehow neutralise.

One way is to actually deplete the bones of calcium and magnesium, and compromise their strength. A paradox. The strongest animals in the world suckle their young, upon weaning they never drink milk again. The thing is that these animals get their bone building minerals of calcium and magnesium not from milk but from things green, - grasses and leaves. When someone says to you, “ but where do you get your calcium from. …” you now know.

Sugars ain’t all the same. There are large molecules and small molecules, simple sugars and complex sugars, natural sugars and manufactured sugars and artificial sweeteners.

The consumption of sugar has increased over the last 150 years from about 1 kg of sugar per year to about 55 kg per year. Little of this increase has been in complex sugars but rather in refined sugars used in manufactured foods and drinks. One large problem is that the body finds these sugars rapidly enter the blood stream and cross the blood- brain barrier. This increases the blood sugar and the body panics and produces large amounts of insulin to minimise the shock. In doing so the net result is that a lot of this excess sugar is converted to fat, unhealthy fat. An energy spike is experienced which is often recognised as a feel good condition. However it does not last and so off for the next hit. Complex sugars such as those found in fruit and vegetables on the other hand need to be broken down by the body before they can be absorbed into the blood stream. This takes time and doesn’t usually produce a spike in blood sugar levels. The result is that the energy levels are much more sustainable and tend to last longer between recharges and the energy is used up and not converted to fat.

WATER

Water is after air the most important thing for us to take into our bodies. Without water the body rapidly dehydrates and dies. The human body is about 72% water. If you’ve ever found a dehydrated carcase of a dead animal you’ll know how much water there is in the body. Most people in the western world are severely dehydrated. We need to stay hydrated, well hydrated at that. The brain is 80% water. Each day we need to drink about one litre of water per 22 kg of body weight. No you wont have water sloshing around inside of you and no you wont spend half your day in the toilet. If you’ve ever neglected to water a pot plant, which I’d find it difficult to believe that any of you would do such a thing. The thing is the plants roots dry out and the soil around them dries out. If you pour water on the soil and roots, it runs straight through. Soak the pot in water until it re-hydrates, leave it for a day and pour the same amount of water onto it, you’ll probably find that little if any water flows through it straight away or if at all and most of it is absorbed. The same with the human body, it takes a while to flow through when it is adequately hydrated. The average person is dehydrated, if your urine has any more than a slight tinge of straw colouring in it, then you are dehydrated, so drink up. No, you wont flush out all the electrolytes and collapse. Just try it and see if you feel pleasantly different. The average person used to weigh 70kg, that’s what the pilot uses in calculating the take off weight of his aircraft, this is out of date and needs to be increased, but 70kg, needs about 3 litres and another cupful per day of water to stay hydrated. Freshly crushed and cold pressed juices counts as water. The average person only drinks about 1 litre of water a day. Over a year that is nearly four 44 gallon drums or 800 litres you’ve missed out on, more than enough to fill the wading pool a couple of times. Things like tea, coffee and alcohol are diuretics so the equivalent amount has to be added to the 3 litres. You may have had the experience in your misspent youth to have drunk a little too much booze and the next morning you’re dry as and your head is demanding immediate attention. That is because the whole body is low on moisture and the sooner you re-hydrate the better.

Whatever water you drink is utilised by the body in a controlled manner. The brain, being boss gets first go then the other organs and so on until either everything is fully hydrated again or else the water runs out and some parts are left a little dry. One part of the body that is often dehydrated and left a little dry are the discs in the back. When fully hydrated they are plump and full of fluid and keep the vertebrae separated and able to articulate fully. When they become dehydrated, this allows the discs to compress and allow the vertebrae to perhaps grind on one another and to squash the nerves that come from the spinal cord.

You’ve heard of pinched nerves and compressed discs. Well before looking for the steroids or worse still the knife, consider a good few extra glasses of water each day to re-hydrate yourself.

This de-hydration also affects the colon and what is passing through it. The colon takes moisture from the matter passing through it. If you are dehydrated the bowel matter is also dehydrated. Guess what, it is hard and dry, difficult to move through the colon and is one significant cause of constipation. When a bowel motion does take place, not everything moves. What is on the outside can stick to the walls and de-hydrate and putrefy more and add to the toxic load in the colon. Not only that but the colon can enlarge to accommodate this material and in doing so becomes lethargic and makes it even more difficult to pass. Paradoxically, the colon in this condition cannot absorb moisture as it should and the stool may be very liquid while the body is dehydrated.

When the body is fully hydrated, water that we drink is used to flush out all the body and exchange body fluids on a continual basis.

ENZYMES

Enzymes are the life force of the foods we eat. They are an essential part of our diet and although they do not nourish the body they are the catalysts that allow the food we eat to do so. A simple test to see if the enzymes are fully active is to test the food and see is live and if it will grow. Seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables that have been heat treated or radiated in some way have all had the enzymes compromised and hence will not do their job. The body will have to draw on its reserves to digest the food and drink and after these are depleted, then life is no more. Enzymes are necessary to help with the repair and rebuilding of damaged DNA and to limit the effects of aging.

Enzymes can readily be found in the diet, providing the food has not been heated above about 55C. Anything that has been cooked, pasteurised or heat treated in any way has had the enzymes destroyed. Raw food has live enzymes that when eaten can act as catalysts where necessary to repair and rebuild DNA. This is particularly important in mitigating the effects of aging. It is important to eat a significant amount of food each day that has not been depleted of its enzymes. Enzymes are particularly important in building protein. The body makes protein from its precursors, nitrogen and amino acids. Nitrogen may come from the air we breathe or as a by product of the breakdown of plant or animal protein. Amino acids may be ideally gained as first source from plant foods or secondarily as second source from the breakdown of protein during the digestion process. When amino acids and nitrogen are combined by the body to build protein, the catalyst is the enzymes.

IMMUNE SYSTEM (Which is not really a system but a concept that helps with understanding)

The immune system is one thing that is severely compromised by the SAD diet of western nations. 70% of the immune system is in the intestine and the colon. Ideally this should be a clean river of life, free of obstructions, debris and toxins. For those who have had the pleasure of nurturing a new born baby, you will know that within one to two hours of being fed, there will be a bowel motion. Good things in, bad things out! This does not mean that the milk that the baby drank has passed through in that short time frame. There may be six or eight feeds being processed at different stages along the length of the alimentary canal at any one time. As we grow the gut matures and is able to ideally limit the elimination process to two or three a day. The adult human intestine is about 6m long and the colon is about 1.5m long. The intestines have about 400 million tiny villi, tiny threads that absorb nutrients as they are moved through.

When food is eaten it begins the digestion process in the mouth where it is mixed with saliva. Once in the stomach it is subjected to some very harsh acids to help quickly breakdown the food and drink that has been ingested. The stomach lining is also subjected to these harsh acids, but it is protected by a mucosal lining that is continually sloughed off and replaced. Once the stomach has finished with breaking down the food, it is then slowly released into the intestines where the majority of the nutrients are absorbed.

The final absorption of nutrients and moisture takes place in the colon. Eventually ending at the end of the colon or the rectum to be eliminated. Ideally elimination should follow sometime after a meal as the electrical forces within the newly ingested live foods take effect in stimulating peristolsis. The time that the alimentary canal takes to process food from eating to elimination should be as short be as 8 to 12 hours. This depends upon whether meat and other less easily digested food is eaten or not. Raw fruits can pass through the stomach into the intestines within about one hour. Heavy meats that have been cooked such as pig meat, can take from 4 to 6 hours to digest in the stomach before passing into the small intestine. The digestion process can be very tiring on the body. Look at what happens after a family feast. Most retire to rest soon after the eating has finished because all the energy is focussed on digesting food. Often the food eaten is very diverse, from light raw fruits, to cooked vegetables, to a variety of cooked meats. These are all mixed in the stomach at once. Some foods digest quickly and then start to ferment in the stomach while the heavier foods are still being digested. Any wonder reflux and indigestion are often experienced. Perhaps if food that is digested quickest is eaten first and the slowest and most difficult is eaten last then these conditions may be reduced in occurrence and severity. The western SAD diet is most often eaten without thought as to how long each type of food takes to digest in the stomach. The thought of beginning the meal with raw fruit or the desert course then the salads followed by the cooked vegetables then the raw fish and finishing with the cooked and processed meats would not seem plausible. However this is the relative time the different foods takes to digest. In fact the healthiest way to eat is a mono diet, that is where one type of food is eaten at each meal.

So here we have this food that has been eaten that has to be broken down into its constituents so that it can be absorbed. Take a raw carrot, it has to be broken up, chewed, masticated then the juices that are released then have to be broken down so that the intestines can absorb the nutrients. So we end up with pulp or fibre which can help with cleaning the gut and the juice which contains the nutrients.

Other foods have to be dealt with in a similar way, broken down so that they can be absorbed. The slower the foods move through the gut and the more processed they are, the more opportunity there is for the gut and its immune system to be compromised. Slow moving goo and glue foods and lack of roughage passing through the gut allows time for build up to take place and for matter to be trapped in the folds of the gut and lodge there. Instead of passing through the gut in 8 to 12 hours before elimination, in extreme cases elimination may be once every 8 days and then only with great difficulty. This allows plenty of opportunity for bowel matter to putrefy and stick to the walls of the colon in particular and to build up. This creates a fairly toxic condition allowing gas, body odour, poisons and leakage into the stomach cavity. Toxins that would normally be caught by the mucosal lining and sloughed of regularly are trapped and build up in the putrefying layers that accumulate inside the colon in particular. This build up enlarges the colon in particular and the small intestine to a lesser degree. However what passes often has to find its way through a very narrow and tortuous passage to be eliminated. Often without being dried out as it passes through the colon because of the toxic build up in the colon. The peristalsis that would normally move the bowel matter quickly and with ease has little effect due to the thick build up and so elimination has to be associated with red faces and extreme effort. Often this results in other issues such as the ubiquitous haemorrhoid, diverticular disease and anal fissures. The build up not only effects the colon but all other organs in the body.

What we end up with is a very much compromised digestive system. The flow of nutrients is compromised, the absorption is compromised, the immune system is compromised and the effective elimination of waste is compromised. Any wonder someone with issue of the gut can have many and varied health issues.

DIGESTIVE LOAD

The digestive load can have some significant long term outcomes that when optimised, result in healthy, productive and long lived individuals. A study some years ago was made of the population of Okinawa because of its high incidence of centenarians and its low incidence of chronic illness. There were more than 500 people per million who were 100 years or more. A detailed examination of their lifestyle revealed some observations which are at odds with the western lifestyle. The dinner plate is only 8/10ths full, that is they do not over eat. The diet is high in anti-oxidants raw foods. They enjoy moderate exercise, not rugby or AFL style but reasonably vigorous walking and volleyball. There are teams based on age groups, 100+, 90+ and 80+ and they tend to conserve energy. However the younger generation is not so healthy as they tend to follow the western lifestyle. In Australia about 5 per million live to be 100 or more. There are some other populations in the world that are similar to the Okinawans.

Looking at some specific foods and their overall effects on nutrition and health. The western diet has an emphasis on dairy and meat.

Milk in the western diet and its other manufactured products such as cheese is pasteurised to kill bugs but in the process enzymes are also destroyed. The digestive process is compromised from the outset, no longer is milk a whole food. The enzymes that are there to help assimilate any goodness in the milk are absent, is it any wonder that the countries with the highest per capita consumption of milk products also have the highest incidence of milk allergies, diabetes, osteoporosis and lupus. Milk products are promoted as being rich sources of nutrition, but they have been seriously compromised by the industrial food industry. So here we have a food that is ingested in huge quantities in the western diet purportedly to supply calcium for bones and some fats for energy. However it produces an acid residue which has to be neutralised by the body. One of the first things that is called upon to neutralise this acid is the magnesium residing in the bones. A recent study on the effects of pasteurisation was made comparing calves fed on whole milk and calves fed on the same milk that had been pasteurised. The outcomes were as expected, healthy robust calves at weaning for the whole milk and smaller, less robust and sick animals from the pasteurised group. Think about this when you may be considering milk in your diet and when feeding pasteurised milk to young children in particular.

Meat in the western diet is considered to be a daily staple, in fact in many places meat is part of each meal. Apart from the fat and cholesterol that is ingested, industrially raised meat, such as feed lot beef contains a huge load of industrial drugs. These have been fed to the animals to artificially increase body mass and protect against disease. When ingested by other animals, including humans, these industrial drugs and their residues end up being passed on and become part of the digestive load. Residues of antibiotics then impact on the gut flora and compromise the digestive process and add to any already present toxic load on the body. A considerable part of the energy derived from the meat is used up in the digestive process. This can take more than 24 hours to occur in humans. This means that the meat and its residues have begun to putrefy along the way, adding further toxic load that the body has to deal with.

Vegetables and fruits that are eaten raw are digested quickly. The digestive process takes about an hour on an empty stomach before release into the small intestine. Here the nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream. There has been a reasonable load on the digestive system to break the food down so that it can be absorbed. Then there is a fairly large load of pulp which has to be dealt with and moved along the digestive tract.

If the fruits and vegetables are crushed and most of the pulp removed by juicing, then the nutrients enter the bloodstream much quicker and with far less load on the digestive system. This means that the energy required to process the juice is less, and the available nutrition is proportionally more. As a result of this, the excess energy which is not required to deal with the bulk food, is available to the body to carry out the work of providing a strong immune system, among other things.

FASTING

Juice fasting is perhaps a misnomer, nevertheless it does convey the idea of something special going on. The word fast is derived from the meaning to make strong. So a juice fast is undertaken to make the body strong.

Why undertake a juice fast? The first thing is to increase nutrition. A typical juice recipe consisting of apples, carrots, lemon and beetroot would produce about 2 litres of juice from about 3 kg. This has very little pulp and a very high bio available nutrient dense juice. Very little energy is required to digest it and there is not much pulp that has to be transported. If you imagine 2kgs of carrots, six medium size apples, a small lemon and a small beetroot served up on a dinner plate. This would constitute a reasonable sized meal and would require a lot of chewing and chopping into edible sized pieces to be digested not to mention the large load of fibre and pulp and the time to eat it. Juicing bypasses this to a considerable degree and in doing so provides a nutrient dense food which is readily digestible.

By reducing the load on the gut in digesting the juice, it has an opportunity to clear out material that may have been stuck to the walls and caught in crevices. In doing so the gut becomes more pliable and better able to absorb nutrients. This results in more energy being available due to the increase in efficiency of absorption. This excess energy is available to the body to carry out repair and maintenance. This would include damage to organs such as the liver and the pancreas due to toxic loads and physical damage to the body.

A typical fasting with juice over a 21 day period would result in some of the following occurrences. Days 1 and 2, the stomach and gut would clear out any previously ingested food. Days 3 and 4 the liver would be cleared of fats and on days 5 and 6, fat cells, viruses and bacteria would be sought out and mobilised. By doing this, a lot of old wounds may be disturbed and a lot of dormant toxicity mobilised. This would result in headaches and nausea and maybe some painful spots on the body during the first 10 days of the fast. However on the upside, these are transient and usually only last and hour or so or at the worst up to about 8 hours. Usually by day 10 at the latest the body settles down and begins the task of some serious rebuilding. By about day 14 the lymph system is beginning to clear itself of wastes the may have been around far too long. This is why it is important to maintain a level of walking each day, as the lymph is mobilised through muscular contraction only. It is important to ensure that clothing is loose so that there is no restriction to the lymph flow. This particularly applies to bras that have an underwire and shoulder straps that are too tight. Around about day 21 the lymph has usually been cleared. During the fast most people release about 10 percent of the body weight over the first 14 days of the fast and up to a further 5 percent for the next 7 days. However this is not across the board, people of lighter stature usually loose less and stabilise much earlier in the program. People who are heavier may still be releasing weight at day 21 and may not stabilise for some considerable time after that. Water is important and needs to supplement the juice. A guide is that the body requires 1 litre of water per 22 kg of body weight. When on the juice fast, each litre of juice can be equivalent to about 1.2 litres of water. Depending upon your body weight, about two thirds of your requirements should come from juice. Therefore for a person who weighs 66 kg, they would need 3 litres of water per day. By making 2 litres of juice, then about a litre of water is required to make up the balance. You will notice that these measurements are all very approximate. A person weighing 110 kg would require 5 litres of water. In terms of the juice fast they would need 3 litres of juice and 2 litres of water. Mostly this is due to the juice being modules of one litre. There is also the activity level and the weather to be considered. A very active person may require more water especially in the warmer part of the year. The test is of course the colour of the urine. This should be a light straw colour at the darkest, any darker and the fluid intake needs to be increased. As the day is begun by drinking half to a litre of water with 1 to 2 teaspoons of rock salt or unrefined sea or lake salt, then electrolyte balance is rarely a problem.

JUICE CLEANSE PROGRAM

The juice cleanse program is made up of a number of modules. Depending where you are at, at the time you decide to undertake the program as to what you need to do to obtain the optimum result.

The program begins with a questionnaire, the answers are evaluated and from this a detailed, individual program is mapped out. Each program has the same content however because each person has different issues that need to be addressed then the introductory part of the program is often very different for each person.

The introductory part of the program may take up to three months. This is usually to accommodate issues around liver, gall bladder and kidneys that may need some specific cleansing. Most people usually have an introductory program of about 14 days to prepare for the juice cleanse and minimise the effects of detoxification. Apart from body weight the juice part of the 21 day program is the same for everybody apart from weight variations. At about day 15, a regimen of cleansing with a clay and seed mix is undertaken. The clays used are very specific in what they are intended to accomplish. There are three fractions, two fractions are included to attract heavy metals and toxic residues that may be in the colon. The other fraction is a finely ground sea shell and clay fraction that is designed to scratch any parasites that may be still clinging to the wall of the gut. The parasites cannot recover from the scratch and soon dehydrate and die. During the course of the fast some people may wish to avail themselves of the opportunity to undergo a colonic irrigation or a series of enemas. Both of these have among other things the ability to dislodge any toxic residues and matter that is caught in the diverticula folds. Although desirable these procedures are not absolutely necessary.

The seeds and husk included in the mix are to provide a scouring of the walls of the gut to help dislodge any stubborn mucosal linings and any matter that may be caught in the diverticula folds. The mix is taken over an eight hour period and is accompanied by more than average amounts of water. Most times this is eliminated some eight or more hours later along with any residual matter that has been collected along the way. Sometimes people find that their gut is still sluggish and may need to take a dose of Epsom salts to help move through the gut. This is very rare.

At the end of 21 days a transition program is begun that lasts one to two weeks in which the long term diet is introduced. Depending upon where you are at as to whether you desire to have a raw vegan diet based on fruit as the main component or perhaps a modified omnivore diet based on your 21 day experience and learning. There is no hard and fast rule. However most people experience a heightened awareness of how dietary changes effect their bodies. This is due to the increase in the bodies immunity to diseases and sickness and also to the bodies renewed ability to regenerate damage due to accidents. This regeneration also effects the natural ongoing repair and replacement of cells within the body and in particular those cells that need repair due to less than optimal copying due to DNA or oxidative damage.

Once the fasting program has been completed and the effects on sleep and rest patterns and changes in levels of concentration and energy have been experienced, then this most often becomes the routine expected from day to day and year to year. The idea that degenerative diseases are inevitable as we age becomes the myth that it is. Although aging does cause some changes in the human body, its ability to repair itself and fend of illness and disease is not compromised if the river of life is fed the right stuff. ©graeme ward 2011

It is now a little over five years since I made the decision to make at least a litre of juice every day. Along with the juice I also have mostly raw fruit and veg.
In deference to some family requirements I also have minimal cooked food, usually on celebratory occasions.
A couple of observations.
The first is that I have not taken any medisins or pharmasuitikils over the last five years. Prior to this journey I would find that colds and the odd migraine would be treated with some medicine.
I haven't had any health issue, (apart from the symptoms of a cold or sore throat that lasts for less than 24 hours), over the last five years.
This is all the more remarkable considering the cocktail of drugs I was taking each day, having been told that dire outcomes would result should I not follow the protocols for heart attack victims for the rest of my life.
Another observation is that I am able to sleep naturally and awaken refreshed. Also if I wake during the night I have a fair idea of the time.

Recently climbed Mt Feathertop, most remarkably, the next day I didn't have any muscle soreness (lactic acid buildup) and my pH was 7.2 which is about what it usually is. A good indication of the residual reserve alkalinity that I have built up.

Juice cleansing is something that anyone can do at anytime.

From the time we are born we hope to have a long life, free from pain, illness or disability in the pursuit of happiness.

Some choices in our western lifestyle in particular often compromises our hopes. The foods we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the sun we see little of, the exercise we may not have, the unhappy relationships we may endure and a lack of passion may in one way or the other cause our hopes to fade.

The human body has an amazing resilience in being able to recover from the brink of disaster when given a chance.

This chance can be given the body by undertaking a juice cleanse.

The juice cleanse program begins with a short meeting, either one on one or maybe in a group or even remotely, by phone, skype, etc. The understandings and teachings that underlie the program are put forward and discussed in detail. This gives an insight into the 'why' you would undertake a juice cleanse.

The cleansing program itself begins with a brief questionnaire to better understand your current state of health.

Although the program has a strong sense of purpose, it is essentially a fun, enjoyable and sustainable experience. You may follow the program as part of your normal daily routine at home and work, or you may want to take a holiday, go to an exotic resort, go to the sea, go to the mountains, visit a farm and etc.

Following the questionnaire and an assessment, a lead in program is implemented which may take from a week to a month or more with the aim of gently easing you into the juice cleanse.

This is followed by the cleanse which lasts for 21 days in which time you make and drink a special blend of juice each day.

During this time most people find among other things that their weight drops about ten percent (joy), their energy levels increase significantly (fun), and illnesses may show signs of remitting.

From day 21 to day 35 you are then guided from a juice only diet into a long term sustainable lifestyle that may well be considerably different to that which you were following prior to the cleanse, if you so choose.

During the program you are supported by being able to phone either in the morning or the evening and also by email and skype.

As before, the program is designed to be fun, enjoyable and sustainable. You can revisit it at any time and repeat what you have learned.

Some people find that they can follow a new lifestyle rigorously, for others it may well be desirable, however, due to other concerns a modified plan may be better in the short term.

My Story.A few of years ago a friend tells me about a guy who is going to speak here in town about self care and self education.

Graeme
